Comments Coined by Sereno (1986) and defined by Sereno (1998), Ankylopollexia was named after the apomorphic stiff cone-shaped thumb that characterizes most members and defined as a node-based taxon. The active phylogenetic definition is a first-order revision that uses species instead of genera.

Basis for Range The Late Jurassic (Kimmeridgian) species Camptosaurus prestwichii, from the Kimmeridge Clay, is currently the oldest member (Norman 2004). The youngest members of the clade are hadrosaurids of Maastrichitan age. Dates are rounded to the nearest million, the earliest from the beginning of the stage and the latest from the end of the stage (Gradstein et al. 2004).
