Critique Although defined by three authors with comparable definitions (Salgado et al. 1997, Gonzalaz-Riga 2003, Salgado 2003) and in wide use before that, Titanosauridae is not recommended here for continued use. Wilson and Upchurch (2003) have reviewed the inadequate nature of the type species of the genus Titanosaurus, and thus all family group names based on the nominotypical genus Titanosaurus should be abandoned (including Titanosaurinae, Titanosauridae, Titanosauroidea).
