No definition has been proposed. Romer (1956) included within this taxon Acanthopholis, Hylaeosaurus, Onychosaurus, Rhodanosaurus, and Struthiosaurus, whereas Steel (1969) included within this taxon Acanthopholis, Hylaeosaurus, Struthiosaurus, and several other fragmentary genera. Cooper (1985) used this family in place of the much more widely adopted Ankylosauridae.
