Critique No definition has been proposed. Diplodocidae is the preferred family-level taxon for the closely related diplodocoid genera from the Late Jurassic of North America.  Bonaparte (1997:115) designated a new family “Apatosauridae nov.” within an abstract of a paper, but this taxon already had been erected by Huene (1927) many years prior.
